Porsche Prominent at 2000 Sebring ClassicSEBRING, Fla., March 14 Fresh from its class victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona, Porsche will see 21 cars baring its name take the green flag at this year's 12 Hours of Sebring Endurance classic on Saturday, March 18th. Since 1952, Porsche has been a fixture at the central Florida racetrack. In fact, with the exception of the inaugural 12 hour in 1952, Porsche has had a car entered in every single Sebring endurance race. For the 2000 edition of Sebring, Porsche dominates the entry list with 17 cars entered in GT, three in GTS and an exciting new entry from Champion Racing in the Prototype class. Significant Porsche news for Sebring: -- The Champion Racing team will enter a brand new Porsche powered Lola B2K. The engine and gearbox are an evolution of the Le Mans winning GT1-98 package. It represents the first mating of Porsche power and gearbox to the new Lola chassis. -- Dick Barbour Racing, one of only two teams to ever win Sebring three years in a row (the other being the team of the legendary Briggs Cunningham) has announced the entry of a second team car, number 51 for famed endurance racer Bob Wollek and 1999 Petit Le Mans class-winner Sascha Maassen. The other GT Class team car will once again be piloted by Porsche factory drivers Dirk Mueller and Lucas Luhr. -- In addition to the number 21 car for 1999 ALMS GT Class champ and 1999 Porsche Cup-winner Cort Wagner, Michael Colucci Racing (MCR) will field three other GT Class cars under the MCR/Nygmatech Motorsports banner of Kurt Baumann. Over the years Colucci-led teams have earned 68 victories in Porsches ranging from 911s to 935s to 962s. -- Alex Job Racing, the 1999 GT-class championship team, returns with the championship winning GT3 R for Bruno Lambert, Randy Pobst and Mike Conte. -- Australian-based Skea Racing International will field two 911 GT3 Rs, one for team-owner Rohan Skea, Grady Willingham and Lloyd Hawkins. The second Skea GT Class entry will be piloted by US Porsche standout David Murry and British Porsche Cup veteran Johnny Mowlem. -- American endurance racing legend Hurley Haywood returns to Sebring at the wheel of a Reiser-Callas Rennsport entered GT3 R. Haywood, who has won the 12 Hours of Sebring twice overall, holds the record for the most Sebring starts at 28. In addition to the on-track news, Porsche will also make on-line news at Sebring. Porsche will offer continuous internet coverage of the entire race weekend starting with Thursdays first practice session. Up-dates will be posted after each practice or qualifying session along with a pre-race up-date on race morning. During the race, up-dates will be given every two hours. A final race report along with an in-depth listing of the results will follow soon after the race's end. The 48th Annual 12 Hours at Sebring will be broadcast in its entirety by Speedvision, beginning on Saturday, March 18th at 9:30 a.m. EST.
