Ward's Reports Estimated Production

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 10 Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada
and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 378,943 units, up from the 370,282 cars
and trucks built last week, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.
Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 3,642,244 vehicles, up 3.1 percent from like-1999's pace.
In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 280,381 vehicles this
week, an increase of 3.1 percent from the 272,005 cars and trucks built last
week. To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
2,660,021 units, up 2.6 percent from the 2,593,620 vehicles built in like-
1999.
This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 67,642, a 3.4
percent increase from the 65,443 units assembled last week. Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 653,653 units, up 2.7
percent from the 636,684 vehicles produced in like-1999.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 32.0 percent; Ford Motor Co., 28.2 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 17.6 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 4.9
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 4.5 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.5
percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 2.7 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc.,
1.4 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.2 percent; Mitsubishi Motor
Mfg. of America Inc., 1.3 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.6
percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.5 percent; and other manufacturers, 2.6
percent.
