Lucent Technologies and Jordan Grand Prix Form Technological Relationship
MURRAY HILL, N.J.--March 10, 2000--Lucent Technologies has entered into a three-year agreement to be the global innovation partner of Jordan Grand Prix, one of the top three teams on the Formula One automobile racing circuit.Scientists from Bell Labs, Lucent's research and development arm, are working with Jordan's technical staff to improve car-to-pit communications. It is extremely noisy inside a racing car, as the 800-horsepower engine running just behind the driver's head produces a roar that is 10,000 times the level of normal conversation. Bell Labs acoustic engineers are providing advanced noise-cancellation technology to allow drivers to communicate more clearly with pit crews. Lucent will also help to establish state-of-the-art wireless links between the car and the pit, and provide a communications backbone for the Jordan Grand Prix headquarters in Silverstone, U.K.
"We are looking forward to some important technological innovations that could impact the sport of racing for years to come," said Eddie Jordan, chief executive of Jordan Grand Prix.
"Jordan Grand Prix takes technology and R&D as seriously as we do at Bell Labs," said Pete de Tagyos, Lucent's global events vice president. "Hopefully, our technological expertise will help Jordan win the Formula One world championship."
