Roadway Express Enhances Web Site to Include Customer-Specific Rating
AKRON, Ohio--March 10, 2000--Roadway Express, Inc. is expanding its customer-centric and interactive Web site to offer rate quotes using customer-specific pricing information. The service is available to customers who sign up for my.roadway.com, a secure, password-protected area of Roadway's Web site that provides customers with access to real-time shipping information and services.By entering information into just a few data fields such as origin and destination zip code, class of freight, and weight, a rate quote will be generated using the shipper's up-to-the-minute pricing information, including applicable discount. This feature, called Rate Quote and listed on the My Tools side bar, also includes pricing for expanded service options, such as single shipment, inside pickup, notification before delivery and residential delivery. This enhancement offers shippers increased accuracy by providing quotes that match actual freight invoices and helps make freight bill auditing easier. The rate quotes are customer-specific and based on the shipper's individual tariff.
"We're redesigning our internal systems to offer new web-based services," said Bob Obee, Roadway vice president and chief information officer. "In this case, rating programs designed for efficient batch operations internally are being 'externalized' to operate on the web, in real time. That allows us to respond at 'web-speed,' focusing on the unique needs of the web-enabled customer."
