SDRC and CoCreate Partner in e-Business Initiative; Market-Leading PDM and Collaboration Solutions Integrated to Enable Collaborative Innovation Across the Virtual Enterprise
BOSTON--March 8, 2000--SDRC , a global supplier of e-business collaboration solutions for the product lifecycle, and CoCreate Software Inc., a pioneer and leader in Internet-based product development solutions, today announced an initiative to integrate CoCreate's OneSpace engineering collaboration solution with SDRC's Metaphase(R) product data management (PDM) software. The announcement was made here at the Daratech Web-based Product Process Management: CAD/CAM, CAE 2000 Strategy Workshops. The integration of OneSpace with Metaphase will facilitate the sharing of domain knowledge throughout the virtual enterprise and supply chain, greatly enabling innovation within product development environments. Users will be able to collaborate in real time with one another on 3-D models from different CAD systems over either proprietary networks or the Web. Individuals in the design chain can bring together heterogeneous models from different CAD systems, view them, take precise measurements and annotate the model. The combination makes geometric modification of the 3-D model available to all users in a consistent fashion, independent of the originating CAD system.
"The idea of collaborative engineering is the core focus at CoCreate," said Doug Johnson, general manager and vice president of the shared engineering division at CoCreate. "It is particularly exciting for us that SDRC is expanding the concept of collaborative engineering through this initiative. The addition of OneSpace will allow companies to make better decisions by bringing together experts from different disciplines."
"The integration of Metaphase with OneSpace provides another unique collaboration partner for SDRC, one which will create the opportunity to leverage Metaphase with the strengths of CoCreate in key markets like high technology," noted Bill Carrelli, corporate vice president of marketing, SDRC. "The open, standards-based foundation of Metaphase greatly facilitates the ability to work with dissimilar CAD input. Integration with OneSpace is one more example of our initiative to bring e-business collaboration solutions to our customers."
SDRC's Metaphase is a leading enterprise product data management (PDM) system. Its web-centric capabilities allow companies to turn strategic business innovations such as concurrent engineering, mass customization, globalization, virtual corporation initiatives, and supply chain management into fully productive reality. Metaphase provides the underlying infrastructure that companies use to capture, store, manage and share globally dispersed product information.
OneSpace, formally released in 1999, marked CoCreate's departure from existing CAD system architecture to create an entirely new product line based on open systems that reintroduced collaboration into the design process. OneSpace provides the critical link to enable globally dispersed teams to collaborate in real time.
