Toyota's Industry-Leading Certified Used Vehicle Program Sets Best-Ever Monthly Sales Record - Again

    TORRANCE, Calif., March 8 Toyota Motor Sales (TMS),
U.S.A., Inc., today reported its best-ever sales month for Toyota Certified
Used Vehicle Sales and posted its 24th consecutive monthly sales record.  The
strong start follows a record-breaking 1999 in which Toyota retained its
status as the leading Manufacturer Certified Program in the used vehicle
industry with 126,528 total sales, an increase of 44.3 percent over the
previous year.
    February sales of Toyota Certified Used Vehicles totaled 12,954, an
increase of 66.8 percent compared to February 1999.  Calendar-year-to-date
sales total 23,982, up 61.0 percent compared to the same period last year.
    "Our 1999 Toyota Certified Used Vehicle sales record and the unprecedented
record start for 2000 proves there is no end in sight to our growth," said
Guillermo Hysaw, TMS corporate manager, used vehicle operations department.
"As more of our dealers join the Certified Used Vehicle process, and as more
consumers recognize the benefits, we should be on the path to make this a year
to remember."
    The Toyota Used Vehicle process, established in 1996, continues to provide
the best pre-owned warranty in the industry.  The warranty, from date of first
use, includes six-year, 100,000-mile powertrain coverage, as well as an
optional comprehensive 100,000-mile vehicle service agreement.  And, 24-hour
roadside assistance also is provided free of charge for one year.
    All 1995-2000 models with less than 65,000 miles are eligible for the
program.  Prior to sale, each vehicle receives a rigorous 128-point inspection
of all mechanical and safety functions, as well as overall appearance
considerations.
