Motorola Brings Comprehensive LIN Systems Solution to the Automotive Market; Motorola Enables New Communications Standard That Gives Flexibility And Reduces Cost

DETROIT, March 7 Motorola , the automotive
industry's leading supplier of semiconductors, today announces a comprehensive
system solution to support the new Local Interconnect Network (LIN) standard.
As the only semiconductor member of the LIN Consortium, Motorola can offer a
wide range of advanced components, software, tools and support to enable
customers to start designing today. This additional offering puts Motorola
ahead in the race to offer automotive customers advanced system solutions,
based on Digital DNA(TM) technology.
"As more and more intelligent systems are developed for remote automotive
applications, Motorola is making it possible for customers to implement LIN
today. Our LIN systems portfolio comprises of master and slave
microcontrollers, LIN software drivers and mechatronics products," commented
Denis Griot, vice president and general manager of Motorola Transportation
Systems Group. "In addition to standard devices, Motorola has implemented
products that merge SMARTMOS(TM) and microcontroller functionality into a
single package or connector known as 'mechatronics'. We believe this is the
key enabler to drive the growth of LIN within the automotive market."
Motorola is leading the way to provide complete system solutions. We are
working to ensure a first class, seamless development and debug environment
for Motorola LIN products. Motorola has a wide range of 8- and 16-bit
microcontrollers for both master and slave nodes.
Motorola has joined with Audi AG, BMW AG, DaimlerChrysler AG, Volvo Car
Corporation AB, Volkswagen AG, and tool vendor Volcano Communications
Technologies to form a consortium that has defined a cost-competitive, sub-bus
network solution. LIN complements Controller Area Network (CAN) solutions by
providing customers with lower cost connections within local network clusters.
LIN gives automotive manufacturers a flexible and cost effective way to adapt
car platforms across all models and generally increase functionality.
