SPX Corporation to Acquire Fenner Fluid Power Division

    MUSKEGON, Mich., March 6 SPX Corporation today
announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase the Fenner
Fluid Power division of Fenner plc of Yorkshire, England.  The transaction is
expected to be complete within 30 days, subject to Hart Scott Rodino review
and approval by the shareholders of Fenner plc.
    John B. Blystone, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of SPX
Corporation said, "The addition of Fenner Fluid Power to our Power Team
business will bring new technology and complementary products.  Their presence
in the international market will position Power Team for increased
international growth."
    Fenner Fluid Power is a leading supplier of medium pressure hydraulic
power system components for mobile and stationary applications.  It has
facilities in Rockford, Illinois and Romford, England.  Power Team is a market
leader in the manufacture of high force industrial tools and hydraulic power
systems components.
