William J. McCarthy and Donald Ratajczak Elected As TBC Directors
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--March 3, 2000--TBC Corporation today announced that William J. McCarthy and Donald Ratajczak, Ph.D. have been elected to fill open positions on its Board of Directors. Their election brings the number of directors to nine.McCarthy formerly was President, Stores and Marketing, for Montgomery Ward & Co. Ratajczak, a nationally known economist, directs the Economic Forecasting Center in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University and serves as a Professor of Economics within the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies.
McCarthy's former responsibilities included all marketing, advertising and store presentation as well as the East and West territory store organization. McCarthy joined Montgomery Ward in 1958 as a management trainee and rose through various management assignments. In 1977 he was appointed Chicago Metropolitan District Manager; and in 1980 was elected Vice President and Retail Merchandise Manager. He was promoted to Vice President Eastern Region in 1982 and the following year to Senior Vice President Store Operations. In 1985, he was elected Executive Vice President of the Company. McCarthy joined Midas in 1986 as President of U.S. Operations. He then became Senior Vice President of Client Services Specialization in retail marketing campaigns for the advertising firm Oglivy & Mather in 1989 until he returned to Montgomery Ward as the President of Marketing in 1990. He was promoted to President, Stores and Marketing, in 1991. McCarthy is a graduate of St. Joseph's College of Indiana with a B.S. degree in Marketing.
Ratajczak currently produces six publications on the economic conditions of the nation and southeast. In addition to speaking to numerous business organizations and industrial institutes throughout the country, he provides consulting services to The Georgia General Assembly, The Council of Economic Advisors and The Congressional Budget Office of the United States Congress. Dr. Ratajczak is frequently quoted on economic conditions by many national and local newspapers and magazines. He received his B.A. degree from Haverford College and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
