Ford Employees Receive Profit-Sharing Checks
DEARBORN, Mich., March 3 -- Friday was a special payday for
eligible Ford Motor Company hourly employees as they received an
average $8,000 in profit-sharing checks at locations across the United States.
The checks, distributed at plants in 16 states and amounting to
$870 million, were based on last year's record profits of $7.2 billion.
The $8,000 average amount for 1999 -- surpassing Ford's previous record
average of $6,100 for 1998 -- was the 14th payment made under the company's
Profit Sharing Plan since it was first agreed to by Ford and the UAW in 1982.
The total of these averages comes to $40,575.
There were approximately 103,700 active Ford hourly workers at the end of
1999. About 109,000 people, some of whom retired in 1999 and some new to the
company, received checks.
