Dana Corporation Names the Engineering Achievement Award Winner
    TOLEDO, Ohio, March 2 / -- Dana Corporation
recently awarded its inaugural Engineering Achievement Award to Bob Durand,
director, advanced engineering and technology, for the Structural Products
Group.
    Durand graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical
engineering from Western Michigan University.  He began his career with Dana
in 1968, as a research and development technician for the Parish Structural
Products Division.  Bob held various engineering positions before being named
to his current position in 1991.  In this position, Bob has been instrumental
in the development of several new technologies, such as hydroforming,
magnetic-pulse welding, high-speed welding, aluminum material substitution,
composite material cradle concepts, and new paint coating methods.
    "The Engineering Achievement Award is presented not for one singular
achievement, but for the totality of an engineer's efforts.  Bob has great
vision in developing innovative designs and processes that will shape the
future of the automotive industry," said Joe Magliochetti, Dana president and
chief executive officer.
    Durand has written numerous technical papers and holds several patents,
which include a method for joining vehicle frame components, and the method
for manufacturing and assembly for the engine cradle for the vehicle body and
frame.  He is also a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, and Dana's
Round Table.  His further achievements include receiving a federally funded
grant from NIST Advanced Technology Program for pulse welding development and
also receiving Dana's Technical Assistance Plan Grant for hydroform
development.
    The criteria for the award includes, overall engineering achievements, as
well as continuing education, professional and technical activities, external
recognition, and civic and humanitarian activities.
    The Parish Structural Products Division is part of the Dana Automotive
Systems Group, which consists of Spicer(R) axle products, Spicer(R) driveshaft
products, Parish(R) structural products, Nakata(R) steering and suspension
systems, FTE(R) Automotive brake and clutch systems, and a systems engineering
integration and logistics unit.
