Hyundai Rockets Into February With Record Sales; February Sales Up 96% Over Last Year

    FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., March 1 -- Hyundai Motor America
today announced sales of 18,565 vehicles for the month of February, up
96% percent from one year ago.  "This was our best February in the past
12 years and our continuing strong sales indicate that Hyundai's sales
momentum is on course for Y2K," said Robert Cosmai, vice-president of sales
for Hyundai Motor America.
    "With sales of 8,567 units, the Elantra is again the volume leader.  Sales
were up 76% percent over the same month last year," Cosmai added.  "Our
flagship Sonata also continues to show large sales increases, with a sales
increase of 149% percent over last year," he said.
    "There are a number of factors bringing customers into Hyundai showrooms
this year," Cosmai added.  "Our product line is nearly all-new and all our
vehicles are backed with The Hyundai Advantage, America's Best Warranty.  In
addition, our dealers are really focused on the franchise and their enthusiasm
for the brand is paying off," he said.
