Cummins Appoints Wall Chief Technical Officer

    COLUMBUS, Ind.--March 1, 2000--Cummins Engine Co., Inc. today announced the appointment of John C. Wall as Vice President - Chief Technical Officer for the Company. Wall previously served as Cummins' Vice President - Research and Development.
    "John is regarded by his peers as an expert in engine technology," said Cummins Chairman and CEO Tim Solso. "I know that Cummins will continue to benefit from his technical leadership as we strive to ensure that our products exceed our customers' expectations for a durable, reliable and fuel-efficient engine, all while working to further reduce emissions."
    Wall, 48, has 22 years of experience in research and engineering. Wall first joined Cummins in 1986 as Chief Engineer - Heavy-Duty Projects after 8 years with Chevron Research Company. In 1987, he became Director - Emissions Research, and a year later was named Director - 94 Heavy Duty Engines. Wall was promoted again in 1989 when he became Executive Director - Advanced Product Development. Wall became an officer of the Company in 1991 when he was named Vice President - Advanced Heavy Duty Engine Development, where he served for a year before becoming Vice President - Advanced Engineering and Technology Planning in 1992. Wall was appointed Vice President - Research & Development in 1995.
    Wall, is a member of the Behr of America Board of Directors, the Industrial Power Alliance Board of Directors, the Purdue University Mechanical Engineering Industry Advisory Council, the MIT Educational Council, is co-chair of the EPA 2004 Diesel Fuels Work Group and is past chair of the EMA Fluids Group. He is a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and has received the SAE's Horning Memorial Award and Colwell Merit Award for his research on diesel fuel effects on exhaust emissions. He has also served as an Industry Advisor to the California Air Resource Board.
    Wall, a native of Birmingham, Alabama area, earned his SB and SM degrees in Mechanical Engineering in 1975 and his ScD in Mechanical Engineering in 1978, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He and his wife, Nancy, reside in Columbus, Indiana, and have two children, Katie and Sarah.
