"The traffic lights are green on Main Street, USA," said Bob Rewey, Ford's
Group Vice President, Global Consumer Services and North America. "Confident
consumers, rising incomes, and innovative products continue to drive strong
auto sales."

    January Sales By Brand
Ford, America's top-selling brand of cars and trucks, posted record
February sales of 290,328. The Ford Focus had its best U.S. sales month ever
(23,820), and added to its long list of global accolades. At the Canadian
International Auto Show, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada
named Ford Focus Car of the Year. It is the first time that any car has ever
swept Car of the Year awards in Europe, the United States, and Canada.
"The Ford Focus definitely is on the radar screen of young buyers," said
Rewey. "Ford dealers are anxious to see just how high the Ford Focus can go
in the spring selling season."
The Ford F-Series, America's best-selling truck for 23 years in a row, set
a February sales record, and so did the Ford Explorer and Ford Expedition.
Together with the Ford Excursion, Ford Outfitters delivered 59,928 sport
utility vehicles to U.S. customers in February, a new record. The Ford
Windstar minivan also set a February sales record.
The company's premium brands continue to benefit from all-new, mid-size
sedans that were introduced in 1999. Lincoln sales were 16,135, up 25 percent
from a year ago. The Lincoln LS, Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year, had
its highest sales month ever (4,278).
"This is another car worth watching this spring," said Rewey. "It's a
good sign whenever a car has its best month ever in February. Increasingly,
people are not just watching the Lincoln LS, they're driving it."
Bolstered by the new Jaguar S-TYPE, Jaguar has posted record sales for 10
months in a row. The all-new S40/V40 compact sedan and wagon has helped Volvo
achieve higher sales for 13 months in a row and records in four of the last
five months.
