Mitsubishi Motors Reports Best February in History

      Sales Up 57.2%, Driven By Galant, Eclipse Coupe and Montero Sport,
                      In Company's Strongest-Ever Start

    CYPRESS, Calif., March 1 -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of
America, Inc. (MMSA) today reported its best ever February results, with
26,069 vehicles sold.  MMSA's previous best February was 1991, when
22,889 units were sold.

    Some figures of note:

    -- Sales of 26,069 vehicles represents a 57.2% increase from February
       1999's 16,586 units
    -- 2000 year-to-date sales are up almost 33% over 1999
    -- MMSA sold a record 8,407 Galants for February, up 135.6%, maintaining
       the award-winning mid-size sedan's aggressive pace in a hotly
       competitive segment
    -- Eclipse sports coupe sales are up 80.8% over last February, and up
       58.3% for 2000 year-to-date
    -- Montero Sport mid-size SUV, restyled for 2000 model year, reported its
       best February ever with sales of 6,231 units, up 61.5% from February
       1999

    "We are off to the fastest start of any year in our history," said Pierre
Gagnon, MMSA executive vice president and chief operating officer.  "And in
the next few months, we expect an additional boost in sales with the
introduction of the 2001 Eclipse Spyder convertible and all-new 2001 Montero
luxury sport utility vehicle.  This gives us confidence that we will meet our
2000 sales goal of 280,000 units."
