Volkswagen Sales Up 29.7 Percent - Best February Since 1975 - Best Passat and Jetta February EverAUBURN HILLS, Mich., March 1 -- Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported its best February sales in 25 years. In February, Volkswagen sold 27,096 new cars in the U.S., which represents a 29.7 percent increase over last year's mark of 20,888. For the year, Volkswagen is well ahead of last year's pace. Year-to-date, Volkswagen has sold 50,946 new cars, up 37.6 percent from the same period in 1999 when sales were 37,037. Last month's results represented the best February for Volkswagen's two most popular models, the Passat sedan and wagon and Jetta. The Passat enjoyed record sales of 6,447 in February, versus last year's mark of 4,262, an increase of 51.3 percent. Volkswagen's top-selling Jetta model recorded brisk February sales of 10,394 versus 1999's mark of 7,929, an increase of 31.1 percent. The Jetta continues to be America's best-selling European nameplate.
