Volvo Makes Strong Showing in February; Up 18% in U.S. Sales*
ROCKLEIGH, N.J., March 1 -- Volvo Cars of North America, Inc.
posted an 18 percent increase in U.S. monthly sales at 10,406, compared with
8,530 units sold in February 1999, adjusted for the leap year.
"This growth puts VCNA on track for another record-breaking year," states
Hans-Olov Olsson, VCNA President and CEO.
Volvo's recently introduced S40 sedan and V40 wagon continue to establish
themselves in the highly competitive entry luxury marketplace, up 9.4 percent
and 14.8 percent respectively compared with last month. The S80 luxury sedan
was down slightly for the month, but overall is expected to outperform 1999
total sales of 33,549.
Although Canada continues to be soft, the scheduled upcoming launches of
the all new V70 in April and the S40 and V40 in July are expected to recapture
sales momentum.
