Detroit Diesel Offers MSHA Non-Gaseous Underground Mine Certified Ratings for D704LTE & D706LTE Engines

    DETROIT, Feb. 29 -- Detroit Diesel Corporation
(DDC) has completed certification of the D704LTE and D706LTE Series engines
for use in non-gaseous underground mines.  Testing was conducted at the
National Resources-Canada Diesel Emissions Laboratory in Ottawa, Ontario,
Canada.
    The D704LTE engine is available in certified performance ratings of 82 hp
at 2300 rpm or 84 hp at 2600 rpm, both with 225 lb.ft. peak torque at 1380
rpm.  The D706LTE engine is available in certified performance ratings of
122 horsepower at 2300 rpm or 123 horsepower at 2600 rpm, both with 347 lb.ft.
peak torque at 1400 rpm.
    The D700 Series is ideally suited to non-gaseous underground mine
equipment applications.  The patented tunnel block design provides structural
integrity for reduced vibration in a light weight, fuel efficient and compact
design.  All D700 Series engines feature wet, replaceable cylinder liners for
maximum cooling and superior cylinder kit life.
    Certified models are now available from Detroit Diesel in both
fan/flywheel and complete open power unit configurations.  The D704LTE and
D706LTE are certified for use in new OEM installations and for repowering
existing equipment for use in non-gaseous underground mines.
    The certification of these two new models extends the range of Detroit
Diesel MSHA certified ratings from 82 to 650 horsepower; featuring the D700
Series, Series 40E, Series 50, Series 60 and 8V-2000 Series engines.
