Mercedes-Benz Passenger Car Division Standardizes on SDRC's Metaphase
CINCINNATI--Feb. 29, 2000--extend current partnership to support PDM solution requirements
throughout Mercedes-Benz Passenger Car Development
SDRC , a leading global supplier of Internet-enabled collaborative product development solutions, today announced that Mercedes-Benz Passenger Car Development, a division of DaimlerChrysler Stuttgart, has standardized on Metaphase(R) Enterprise(TM) as its core product data management (PDM) solution. Extending their existing relationship, SDRC and DaimlerChrysler Stuttgart have agreed to support the deployment of Metaphase through the Smaragd Program Office. Smaragd is the project name of the Metaphase customization to Mercedes-Benz development processes.
The Mercedes-Benz Passenger Car Development group considers PDM to be a key enabler in meeting their business goals of reducing time to market and of maintaining exemplary quality standards. Through the Smaragd Program Office, DaimlerChrysler Stuttgart will provide the automotive development knowledge and experience, and SDRC will facilitate the product data management requirements. Together the two companies will jointly evaluate and define the processes and will deploy a consistent PDM strategy by introducing Smaragd in the current Mercedes-Benz passenger car development projects.
"Engineering data management (EDM) is one of the key enablers in reducing time-to-market and increasing the maturity of the product at each Quality Gate in the development process," said Ralf Lamberti, director, EDM (PDM) Competence Center, DaimlerChrysler Stuttgart. "Therefore, Mercedes-Benz passenger car development is implementing a comprehensive approach in managing all product data. Based on our experiences with Metaphase, we plan to expand the use of Smaragd throughout Mercedes-Benz passenger car programs."
"DaimlerChrysler Stuttgart is recognized as a standard in automotive engineering excellence, and we're extremely pleased to support their engineering innovations with Metaphase," said Bill Weyand, chairman, president, and CEO, SDRC. "We are committed to the success of this program, and will work within the Smaragd program office to support the extended use of Metaphase throughout the Mercedes-Benz vehicle programs. We also see this as an opportunity to further increase our knowledge of best practices and processes within the automotive industry -- a vertical industry in which we have a significant, and growing penetration with our Metaphase solution."
