Foamex International Appoints Arthur H. Vartanian As Executive Vice President, Automotive Products Group
LINWOOD, Pa.--Feb. 28, 2000--Foamex International Inc. announced today the appointment of Arthur H. Vartanian, 46, as Executive Vice President, Automotive Products Group.Mr. Vartanian will also serve on the Foamex Operating Committee. The Announcement was made by John Televantos, President of Foamex's Foam Business Group.
Mr. Vartanian is a former vice president and eighteen-year veteran of Lear Corporation, a leading supplier of automotive interior systems. Foamex is the largest North American producer of trim foam and laminates for the automotive industry.
"Art brings a wealth of automotive industry experience to Foamex," Mr. Televantos said. "In nearly two decades with Lear, he demonstrated outstanding technical and operational leadership, and developed strong relationships with customers, suppliers and the external business community. We are delighted to have him join the Foamex team."
Mr. Vartanian succeeds James Haney, who has served in an interim capacity since August 1999. Mr. Haney joined Foamex in 1998 as Senior Vice President, Manufacturing for the automotive unit. He will continue in that position, reporting to Mr. Vartanian, with responsibility for all of the company's North American automotive manufacturing operations. "Jim has done an outstanding job in executing his dual role over the past seven months," Mr. Televantos said. "Through his leadership and hard work, our automotive business exceeded expectations for 1999 and is off to a great start in 2000. We very much appreciate his stewardship during this critical period, and I know he'll be a valuable resource for Art as he develops and implements a continuing growth strategy for our automotive business."
A native of Detroit, Mr. Vartanian holds a BS in automotive engineering from Western Michigan University and an MBA from Michigan State University. He is a member of the Society of Plastic Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers, and is a current member and past Director of the Engineering Society of Detroit. Mr. Vartanian will be located at Foamex's Southfield, Michigan automotive headquarters.
