SME's SOUTH-TEC Machine Tool Show Offers Southeast Manufacturers The 'Winner's Circle' of Metalworking Resources
    CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 28 -- Where there are motorsports there
are machine tools, and in the Carolinas in 2000, Charlotte is the
pole-position for metalworking resources.  Among the top-qualifiers of North
American manufacturing events, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers' (SME)
SOUTH-TEC Machine Tool and Manufacturing Exposition makes its biennial
pit-stop at the Charlotte Convention Center, February 29 to March 2, 2000.
    Show hours are: Tuesday, February 29, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Wednesday, March 1,
9 a.m. - 6 p.m.; and Thursday, March 2, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Free parking and
shuttle service from the nearby Charlotte Coliseum will save wear-and-tear on
everyone's Goodyears and Firestones.
    As part of the racing theme throughout the 145,000 sq. ft. show floor,
visitors can enter into daily drawings for Coca-Cola 600 tickets or a Richard
Petty Driving Experience.
    An expected 13,000 manufacturing professionals from throughout the South
including the Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee and other states can see
more than 350 exhibitors demonstrating machine tools and accessories.
Exhibits will represent over 1,000 international product lines, featuring the
latest equipment, accessories and services from leading suppliers.  Technology
categories include machining, milling, grinding, deburring, cutting tools,
drilling, tapping, EDM, machine controls, CAD/CAM, finishing, laser systems
and more.
    Accompanying the SOUTH-TEC exposition, new exhibitor-led technical
sessions (free to show attendees) will highlight many of the new products seen
on the show floor.  Also, three advanced technical programs (requiring
separate fees) will be offered as follows: "Modern Grinding Technology" (Feb.
29 - March 1); "Speed to Market for Job Shops" (Feb. 29); and "Trends in
Cutting Tool Material Technology: Evaluation, Selection and Application"
(March 1-2).
