Delphi Appoints Smith and Grant to Spearhead Aftermarket Growth in CanadaTROY, Mich., Feb. 25 -- Delphi Automotive Systems today announced two appointments in its Aftermarket Operations division. Clewell (Cle) Smith has been named manager, Delphi Aftermarket Canada, and Emmett Grant will serve as a consultant. Francisco A. (Frank) Ordonez, Delphi's general manager, Aftermarket Operations, made the announcement. "Cle brings important relationships with customers, vendors and trade associations, as well as top-level management experience that will prove invaluable as we focus our efforts on building a strong aftermarket brand in Canada," said Ordonez. "Emmett's and Cle's knowledge of the Canadian aftermarket will be an important asset as we work to make Delphi the brand of choice in the Canadian automotive aftermarket." Smith has more than 20 years of experience in the automotive supplier industry. Prior to this appointment, he served for nine years as president and CEO of Dominion Automotive Group in Uxbridge, Ontario. Before that, he spent nine years at Echlin, Inc., where he served as president of several divisions, including Brake Parts, Inc., Midland Brake, Inc. and Echlin Canada, Inc. He began his career at Bowman Products (Canada) Ltd. in 1969. Smith is involved in automotive industry organizations, having served as chairman of the Automotive Industries Association of Canada; the Heavy Duty Distributors Council; and the Electronic Commerce Advisory Committee, Council of Fleet Specialists. A veteran of the United States Army, Smith received a bachelor's degree in economics and philosophy from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Grant began his career with Moog Automotive in 1964, and was subsequently appointed president of Moog Canada in 1980. Following the acquisition of Moog by Cooper Automotive Products in 1992, he was named president of Cooper Automotive Products Canada. In this position, he helped facilitate the business consolidation effort between Cooper and Federal-Mogul in Canada in 1999. Grant was chairman of the board of the Automotive Industries Association of Canada (AIAC) in 1991, and was awarded the association's Distinguished Service Award in recognition of industry leadership. He has also served on the Automotive Executive Advisory Committee to the Canadian Federal Government's Minister of Industry. A resident of Toronto, Ontario, he holds a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Toronto.
