Skoda Auto Deutschland Selects SEAGULL's Wireless-to-Host Solution for WAP Pilot ProjectDORDRECHT, The Netherlands, Feb. 25 -- Today SEAGULL has announced at CeBIT in Hannover that it has started a pilot project for Skoda Auto Deutschland GmbH using SEAGULL's Wireless-to-Host(TM) solution. SEAGULL's software technology enables wireless devices such as mobile phones and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) to interact directly with an organization's AS/400 or S/390 host-based business systems. Skoda Auto Deutschland is the first customer to use this brand-new solution on the German market. Skoda Auto Deutschland is evaluating the use of SEAGULL's Wireless-to-Host solution as a next step in their e-business strategy. Skoda wishes to provide its sales representatives with remote access to its central business information system, allowing them to check availability or place orders for cars or car parts using a mobile phone. Skoda Auto Deutschland earlier implemented SEAGULL's Web-to-Host solution, which provides access to Skoda's core AS/400 applications via an Internet browser. With these solutions, Skoda Auto Deutschland will significantly enhance the information flow between its host applications and its 485 local resellers, who connect via J Walk and an Internet-based Virtual Private Network (VPN). In the project, SEAGULL makes use of Nokia's WAP server, WAP software development toolkit and Nokia WAP-enabled mobile phones. "Our IT strategy is based on a very modern infrastructure, providing us with a competitive advantage in our market. New technologies such as SEAGULL's Wireless-to-Host solution fit very well in this strategy," says Oliver Gottwald, IT Manager of Skoda Auto Deutschland. "We are delighted that Skoda, already a customer of SEAGULL, has chosen our web-enabling solutions again. This demonstrates that they are satisfied with our products and services and that they have much faith in our product strategy," says Sigurd Neumann, Country Manager SEAGULL Deutschland GmbH. "Our new Wireless-to-Host solution enables this innovative company to quickly benefit from the advantages of e-business and to achieve significant cost savings and potential increase of revenue."
