Cooper Industries Names Jeffrey B. Levos Vice President and Controller
    HOUSTON, Feb. 24 /-- Jeffrey B. Levos, 39, has been named vice
president and controller of Cooper Industries, Inc. .  In this
position, Levos will assume responsibility for all financial reporting and
accounting functions.  Levos replaces Terry A. Klebe, who was promoted to the
position of senior vice president, Strategic Sourcing, in November 1999.
    "Jeff's credentials are impressive, and we are very pleased to have him
join Cooper," said D. Bradley McWilliams, senior vice president and chief
financial officer, Cooper Industries.  "His experience in a broad array of
financial activities will be an asset to Cooper as we continue to enhance our
profitability and grow our strong business base."
    Levos most recently served as vice president and controller, the chief
accounting officer of The Coastal Corporation, a Houston-based energy company
with consolidated assets of more than $14 billion.  Prior to being named to
that position, Levos was vice president and general auditor at Coastal.  In
these positions, Levos was responsible for all aspects of financial reporting,
supervision of division controllers and oversight of internal audit.  Prior to
joining Coastal in 1994, Levos was employed by Deloitte and Touche, LLP as an
audit senior manager, with extensive audit and related financial services
experience in the manufacturing and energy industries.
    Levos earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Westminster
College in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He is a member of the American Institute of
Certified Public Accountants, the Texas Society of Certified Public
Accountants and the Financial Executives Institute.
