Thomas Gale Named Automotive Industries Executive of the YearDETROIT, Feb. 24 -- Thomas C. Gale has been named Automotive Industries magazine's 2000 Executive of the Year. Gale, who is DaimlerChrysler's executive vice president, product development, design - Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep/Dodge, is the 37th recipient of the career achievement award. He is also a member of the DaimlerChrysler board of management. "Tom Gale's leadership was a cornerstone of Chrysler's turnaround and product revival, and his talents are helping shape the new DaimlerChrysler Corporation," says Marjorie Sorge, editor-in-chief of Automotive Industries. "He is a true industry hero and only the third designer to be honored with the Executive of the Year award in its history." The award will be presented to Gale at a luncheon in his honor on March 8 at the Detroit Athletic Club. Gale joined Chrysler in 1967 and become head of the company's design staff in 1985. He is responsible for the company's innovative cab-forward design. Under his leadership, the design staff created such popular vehicles as the Dodge Viper, Plymouth Prowler, Dodge Ram and PT Cruiser. He is a graduate of Michigan State University and charter member of the school's National Advisory Council. Gale is also on the Center of Creative Studies board of trustees.
