Delphi Makes Manufacturing and Production Control And Logistics AppointmentsFLINT, Mich., Feb. 24 -- Delphi Automotive Systems has made five appointments in its manufacturing and production control and logistics operations, according to Guy C. Hachey, president of Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems. The appointments were effective Feb. 1. Patrick J. Straney, director of Canadian operations for Delphi Energy & Chassis, assumes the responsibilities for divisional manufacturing support activities, including manufacturing planning, divisional safety, manufacturing metric administration and divisional facilities. He reports to James D. Chestnut, director for Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems' Canadian, Sandusky, Saginaw, ASEC Manufacturing and Milwaukee operations. Lee Fiorvento has been appointed manager of Logistic Optimization Centers. Logistic Optimization Centers leverage Delphi's ability to combine products, modules and systems in close proximity to customer sites with other Delphi suppliers in order to better support the needs of Delphi's customers. Fiorvento previously held a similar position for the former Delphi Chassis Division. He also reports to Chestnut. Alberto Abascal has been named plant manager for Delphi Energy & Chassis' Tlaxcala, Mexico, operations. Abascal was previously director of engineering for Tlaxcala's operations. He reports to Robert L. Johnson, director of Mexican Operations for Delphi Energy & Chassis. Abascal replaces Russell D. Sylte, who was named plant manager of Delphi's New Brunswick, N.J., operations. Kew X. Chen has been named managing director of Delphi's Wan Yuan joint venture in Beijing, China, which produces engine management systems. Prior to this appointment, Chen was Delco Electronic Systems' China country manager. He reports to Herman H. Chang, director of manufacturing for Asia/Pacific operations at Delphi Energy & Chassis. Craig D. Cain has been named director of lean enterprise for production control and logistics at Delphi Energy & Chassis. Cain reports to Gary L. Berndt, worldwide director of production control and logistics for Delphi Energy & Chassis. DELPHI AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEMS APPOINTMENTS BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION Patrick J. Straney began his career at General Motors in 1964 as a cooperative student at the Chevrolet division's operations in Bay City, Mich. After holding several positions in Bay City, he was promoted to general supervisor of production in 1972. Straney transferred to Saginaw in 1973, where he had several assignments, including senior engineer and general supervisor of production at Chevrolet. He was promoted to manufacturing superintendent in 1978 and to general superintendent for the former Delco Moraine division in 1985. Straney was appointed plant manager for Delco Moraine's Fredericksburg, Va., operations in 1987 and returned to Saginaw in a similar capacity in 1989. He transferred to the former Delphi Chassis division in 1996 as director of manufacturing for its European operations in Paris in 1996. He holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from General Motors Institute and completed the executive management program at Penn State University. Lee Fiorvento started his career at General Motors as a college-graduate- in-training in 1975 for GM of Canada. He was assigned as a supervisor of production in 1977 and was promoted to general supervisor of materials handling in 1980. After several other manufacturing assignments, Fiorvento was promoted to assistant superintendent of material production and then to superintendent in 1989. He moved to the former Inland Fisher Guide division in Juarez, Mexico, in 1990 and to Flint in 1993 to take a similar position. Fiorvento was named plant manager of Delphi Interior Systems Division's Desio, Italy, operations in 1997. He holds a bachelor's degree in finance and accounting from the University of Windsor. Alberto Abascal started his career at General Motors in 1991 as a production supervisor for the former Delco Remy Division's Tlaxcala, Mexico, operations. After an assignment as a manufacturing engineer, Abascal was appointed engineering manager in 1995. He holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Universidad Autonoma de Tlaxcala. Kew X. Chen started his career at GM in 1986 as a college graduate-in- training at the former Delco Electronics Division's Milwaukee, Wis., operations. After several engineering assignments, Chen was appointed a project engineer in 1989 and an advanced project engineer in 1993. He was named a project manager in 1994, a position he held at Delco Electronics' Flint, Mich.; Kokomo, Ind.; and Shanghai, China, operations. He was appointed Delco Electronics' China country manager in 1997. Chen holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Cooper Union College and a master's in electrical engineering from Marquette University. Craig D. Cain began his career at Delphi Automotive Systems in 1998 as a manager of business process support for production control and logistics at the former Delphi Energy & Engine management division. He was appointed manager of lean enterprise in 1999. Before coming to Delphi, Cain held positions at Price Waterhouse Coopers, Electronic Data Systems and Eastman Kodak Co. Cain holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Roberts Wesleyan College.
