International Speedway Corporation Announces Record Revenues for Speedweeks At Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--Feb. 23, 2000--International Speedway Corporation ("ISC") (Nasdaq/NM: ISCA; OTC Bulletin Board: ISCB) today announced record revenues for the Speedweeks events held at Daytona International Speedway from February 3 to February 20, 2000.Speedweeks comprises 18 days of motorsports activity culminating with stock car racing's most prestigious event, the NASCAR Winston Cup Series Daytona 500.
The speedway's more than 165,000 grandstand seats, which included an additional 8,000 net seats added since last year's race, and vast infield were packed for the sold out event. Dale Jarrett, the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Series Champion, won the event after retaking the lead in the closing laps of the race. Jarrett's winnings, including the Winston No Bull 5 Bonus money, totaled approximately $2.5 million, the largest single day payoff in American motorsports history.
ISC's MRN Radio, "The Voice of NASCAR Racing" and the nation's largest independent radio network, recorded a record 528 affiliates carrying the Daytona 500 throughout the country, and on Armed Forces Radio in 165 countries worldwide. In addition, CBS Sports paid approximately $18 million for the rights to televise the 2000 Daytona 500, the highest fee ever paid for a stock car racing event.
