Hayes Lemmerz International Expands in Michigan
    NORTHVILLE, Mich., Feb. 22 -- Hayes Lemmerz International,
Inc. , one of the world's leading suppliers of wheels, brakes,
powertrain, suspension, structural and other lightweight components to the
automotive and commercial highway markets, demonstrated its support for
Michigan's continued economic development by announcing today that it intends
to construct a new foundry for production of aluminum knuckles, crossmembers
and control arms, in Montague, Michigan.  Construction on the planned
147,000 sq. ft. facility will begin in mid-March.
    Earlier today, the Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA) announced the
approval of a tax credit for Hayes Lemmerz worth an estimated $2.3 million
over 20 years.  The tax credit was central to the Company's ability to
establish its new operations.
    "Hayes Lemmerz appreciates the assistance from the State of Michigan.  It
makes it possible to keep our operations in Michigan," said John Salvette,
Hayes Lemmerz' North American Components Group president.  He adds, "The
expansion is required in order to handle new customer business and will
provide new and advanced processing capabilities."
