ShapingInnovation.com Showcases Real-Time Design of Car Powered by Collaborative Product Commerce Solutions From PTC
WALTHAM, Mass.--Feb. 22, 2000--Design New Class of Race Car in Seven Days; ShapingInnovation.com
to Serve as Information Platform for New PTC Strategy Launch
PTC today announced that its collaborative product commerce (CPC) solutions will be used by three teams on three continents to collaborate via the Internet to completely design a racing car in seven days. Called the World Car Project, the development of the EUROC (European Roadster Challenge) race car will be executed by teams in the United States, Europe, and Japan, working together over the Internet between February 24th and March 1st, 2000. The entire design team will be using PTC's Web-based collaboration and flexible engineering solutions for all elements of the development project to facilitate real-time collaboration. Live progress and results of the project will be available at www.ShapingInnovation.com; PTC's website designed to provide insight and information about PTC's CPC and flexible engineering solutions and about its new strategy launch, taking place from CeBIT in Hannover, Germany.
All aspects of the actual design will be undertaken live using Pro/ENGINEER and the PTC i-Series suite of flexible engineering solutions. PTC's Web-based collaboration solution, Windchill, will allow the three teams, who will be on three different continents and three different time zones, to share and access information at all stages of the product development process. This will ensure that the chassis, which is being built in Europe, and the body, which is being built in Japan, fit with the powertrain, which will be designed in the United States.
"The Internet is changing how manufacturing companies conceive and deliver products to market," said Jim Baum, executive vice president, PTC R&D. "We are very excited about the way this project proves how the Web can be used in conjunction with powerful CPC solutions to drive collaboration, spur innovation, and collapse time-to-market cycles." Baum continued, "This project will provide real proof points to help manufacturing companies understand the e-business opportunities presented by the ubiquity and power of the Internet."
