PennDOT's Driver and Vehicle Services Bus Rolls Into Pittsburgh; PennMobile Slated to Provide Auto Show Visitors a Full Gamut of Products And ServicesHARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 17 -- Car buffs and prospective new car buyers crowding the Pittsburgh Auto Show to catch a glimpse of the latest trends in automobiles can also take advantage of one of PennDOT's latest innovations in providing on-the-spot driver and vehicle services. In support of Gov. Tom Ridge's goal to make state government more accessible and customer-friendly, PennDOT's Mobile Driver and Vehicle Services Unit will be making its annual visit to the David Lawrence Convention Center, 1001 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, on Saturday, Feb. 19, from l1 a.m. to 8 p.m., for the 2000 Pittsburgh Auto Show. While at the auto show, customers can step into a Driver and Vehicle Services Center on wheels and receive virtually the same services and products that PennDOT's Harrisburg headquarters offers. Nicknamed the "PennMobile," this renovated motorcoach and its friendly and knowledgeable staff will enable auto show visitors to renew driver licenses and vehicle registrations, obtain photo identification cards, complete change of address requests, purchase special license plates and more. A telecommunications connection with PennDOT's mainframe computer makes this on-the-spot service possible. The PennMobile, unveiled by Secretary Bradley L. Mallory in 1997, has been traveling throughout the Commonwealth ever since, making products and services more convenient to Pennsylvanians statewide. Since 1997, the PennMobile has traveled to more than 100 sites throughout the state and has served more than 40,000 customers. Heralded for outstanding innovation and convenience, the PennMobile and its highly trained staff received the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators' Star Search Team Award in 1998. This honor distinguishes PennDOT for delivering superior customer service among the motor vehicle and law enforcement agencies throughout the northeastern U.S. and eastern Canada.
