ULSAB-AVC's Contemporary Styling Approach Showcases Program's Technology

16 February 2000

American Iron and Steel Institute: ULSAB-AVC's Contemporary Styling Approach Showcases Program's Technology
DETROIT, Feb. 16 -- Styling is an essential part of any
vehicle development process and the ULSAB-AVC (Advanced Vehicle Concepts)
program is no exception. Vehicle styling is a major influence over body
structure, closures, package, electrical components, aerodynamics and even
mass.
The overall goal of the ULSAB-AVC styling is to design a family of compact
vehicles that would be suitable for 2004 and beyond, but would not detract
from the program focus on technology and steel materials.
Following program requirements, designers created two variations of one
basic design -- a European C-Class and North American PNGV-Class. Porsche
Engineering Services, Inc. Styling Studio in Huntington Beach, Calif.,
developed both concepts.
A full discussion of the ULSAB-AVC styling is available in Technical
Transfer Dispatch #4 on http://www.autosteel.org.
