Delphi Recognized as a Top Supplier by Detroit Diesel
WARREN, Ohio, Feb. 14 -- Delphi Automotive Systems
is one of five companies to be named Detroit Diesel Corp.'s top
suppliers for 1999.
Delphi Packard Electric's Rio Bravo Electricos (RBE) IV facility in Cd.
Juarez, Mexico, was recognized as a "1999 Supplier of the Year" for superior
quality and delivery of wiring harnesses, as measured by Detroit Diesel's
supplier rating for calendar year 1999. Delphi Packard Electric supplies
sensor and injector wiring harnesses to Detroit Diesel's engine plant in
Redford, Mich. Detroit Diesel manufactures heavy-duty diesel and alternative
fuel engines for a variety of applications, such as heavy-duty trucks,
commercial construction equipment, buses and boats.
"This recognition from Detroit Diesel is a good example of Delphi's
precision-manufactured products meeting the high-quality standards of
industries other than the traditional automotive market," said Drew Verbosky,
Delphi Packard Electric sales account manager. "One of Delphi's strategies is
to supply quality systems and components across diverse markets."
Detroit Diesel evaluates major suppliers in the areas of quality,
delivery, cost and technical support, with the goal of waste elimination
through enhanced communication and coordination across the supply chain.
Delphi Packard Electric's RBE IV facility assembles 200,000 wiring
harnesses per year for Detroit Diesel.
Delphi Automotive Systems, headquartered in Troy, Mich., USA, is a world
leader in automotive components and systems technology. Delphi's three
business sectors -- Dynamics & Propulsion; Safety, Thermal & Electrical
Architecture; and Electronics & Mobile Communication -- provide comprehensive
product solutions to complex customer needs. As of December 31, 1999, Delphi
had approximately 203,000 employees and operated 166 wholly owned
manufacturing sites, 39 joint ventures, 51 customer centers and sales offices
and 27 technical centers in 37 countries.
With the addition of Lucas Diesel Systems in January 2000, Delphi's
headcount grew to approximately 213,500 employees worldwide. The company now
operates 175 wholly owned manufacturing sites, 41 joint ventures, 51 customer
centers and sales offices and 27 technical centers in 37 countries. Regional
