Chicago Tribune Hosting Variety of Events at 2000 Chicago Auto ShowCHICAGO, Feb. 10 -- The Chicago Tribune is sponsoring a number of events and presenting extensive coverage on the 2000 Chicago Auto Show running from February 11 to 20 at McCormick Place. First Friday On opening day, Friday, February 11, Chicago Tribune readers receive a special $3.00 discount on full price admission by presenting the coupon from the Chicago Tribune. Additionally, the first 40,000 Friday attendees receive a commemorative, special edition Chicago Auto Show collectible Hot Wheels Corvette when they enter the show. Women's Day Tuesday, February 15 is Women's Day at the 2000 Chicago Auto Show presented by the Chicago Tribune. A coupon in the Chicago Tribune can be presented for a $3.00 discount on a full price admission throughout the day. Manufacturers will present special workshops and seminars targeted to women including topics such as maintenance for the non-mechanic, Internet shopping and purchasing versus leasing of new vehicles. Saturn's Safe Wheels Exhibit Saturn and the Chicagoland & Northwestern Indiana Saturn Retailers present the Safe Wheels Program at the Chicago Tribune Auto Show booth. The Safe Wheels program is designed to develop partnership programs with local highs schools, private businesses and public entities providing educational programs to promote safe driving habits. Among the presentations: -- Sled Car -- demonstration vehicle where participants can feel what it's like to be in a car accident at 15 miles per hour. -- Field Sobriety Test -- demonstration in which participants wear goggles and they are able to feel and see what its like to be impaired. -- Coroner's Exhibit -- video presentation of tragic accidents that inform the public on preventative safety issues.
