Detroit Diesel Recognizes Top Supplier Performers for 1999
DETROIT, Feb. 9 -- Detroit Diesel Corporation
announced today its top 1999 supplier performers as measured by its supply
chain management program, Continuous Customer Value Improvement (CCVI). DDC
evaluates major suppliers quarterly in the areas of quality, delivery, cost,
and technical support with the goal of waste elimination through enhanced
communication and coordination throughout the supply chain.
Five suppliers hold the distinction of being named Detroit Diesel
Corporation "1999 CCVI Supplier of the Year".
    - Motorola's Automotive and Industrial Electronics Group's (AIEG) Seguin,
Texas, manufacturing facility supplies DDC with electronic control modules for
its heavy-duty electronically controlled engines.
    - The General Fasteners Company of Livonia, Michigan, provides Detroit
Diesel with a wide variety of both standard and engineered fasteners.
    - Mahle, Inc., with facilities in Morristown, Tennessee, specializes in
high performance piston solutions that include the DDC forged steel dome and
aluminum skirt design.
    - Winsert, based in Marinette, Wisconsin, is Detroit Diesel's source for
precision machined valve seat inserts.
    - The Delphi Automotive Systems' Rio Bravo Electricos IV facility in
Juarez, Mexico, supplies DDC with a variety of fully assembled wiring
harnesses.

Award presentations are scheduled at each supplier's manufacturing
facility in recognition of their outstanding performance. Key executives from
Detroit Diesel will be in attendance.
1999 marks the second year of the program which provides supply base
coverage for approximately 84% of Detroit Diesel's product material purchases.
In the spirit of continuous improvement, CCVI is being modified in 2000 to
refine the scoring metrics and will be expanded to include indirect materials,
transportation services, and internal DDC machining operations. It is a major
initiative of the company.
