Toyota/Lexus Score a Triple-Play in New England Winter Vehicle Awards
BOSTON, Feb. 8 -- The Toyota and Lexus divisions of Toyota
Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. won three categories of the New England Motor Press
Association's prestigious "Official Winter Vehicle of New England" awards.
Toyota's sophisticated and luxurious Land Cruiser took top honors in the
Full-Size Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) category for the second year in a row.
It was recognized of its "ability to truly go through the roughest of off-road
conditions" as well as its interior refinements and a ride quality that belies
its size.
    Toyota's new-for-2000, full-size, V8-powered Tundra pickup truck was
judged Best Pickup. Members of the press association singled out Tundra as
"the Lexus of trucks," "the most refined of the bunch," and "the new standard
in trucks."
Terry Sell, assistant general manager of Toyota's Boston Region, accepted
Toyota's awards in the evening ceremony.
Lexus' top-selling RX 300 completed the hat trick, taking home the third
award of the night by winning the Compact SUV crown. The smooth-riding,
all-wheel-drive RX 300 has been the best-selling Lexus model since its
introduction in March of 1998.
The New England Motor Press Association is a professional organization
comprised of nearly 50 accredited print and broadcast journalists who cover
the auto industry in the six-state region famous for its challenging winter
weather conditions.
