Mack Centennial Trailer Highlights 100 Years of Innovation; Exhibit Will Tour North America Throughout 2000
LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa.--Feb. 8, 2000--As part of its yearlong Centennial anniversary celebration, Mack Trucks, Inc. today unveiled a unique traveling historical exhibit to its employees and the media in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley. The Mack Centennial Trailer Exhibit is a mobile museum. Integrating custom iconography, video, photography, and Web-based content, the trailer will both entertain and educate visitors with the ongoing story of one of the world's most famous products -- the "Bulldog-tough" Mack(R) truck -- and its important role in the history of the 20th Century.
The trailer is also sure to turn heads on the highway with its exterior design, a 53-foot image of a Bulldog blowing out the candles on a birthday cake.
"It's difficult to do justice to Mack's rich history of innovation in only one trailer," said Mack President and CEO Michel Gigou. "But a walk through this exhibit will give visitors a real sense of the way Mack has changed with the needs of its customers and society over the last hundred years -- as we continue to change today."
Organized by decade, the exhibit starts with the story of the Mack brothers, who founded the company in a small Brooklyn wagon shop, and ends with a look at today's Mack products.
Beyond telling the story of Mack, the trailer also demonstrates how trucking has changed over the last century, and the important role trucks have played in major construction projects like the Hoover Dam and New York City subway system, in the century's tremendous economic growth, and in its military conflicts.
Appropriately, this look at Mack's history will be hauled by an important symbol of the company's future -- the new Vision by Mack(TM) highway tractor. Complete with an 80-inch high-rise sleeper and 460-horsepower Mack E-Tech(TM) electronic engine, this sleek example of 21st Century trucking will serve as an eye-catching counterpoint to its unique "cargo."
After being introduced to employees at several major Mack facilities in February, the exhibit will make its public debut February 21-24 at the "World of Concrete 2000" truck show in Orlando, FL.
The exhibit then begins a full schedule of appearances across North America at Mack facilities, community and industry events, schools, and Mack distributorships (see the company's Web site, www.macktrucks.com, for schedule updates).
The Mack Centennial Trailer Exhibit was designed by Musselman Advertising, Inc., of Allentown, Pa., and constructed by D&E Exhibits, Inc., of Nazareth, Pa.
