Buick Re-Signs Cheryl Ladd as its Golf Ambassador
DETROIT, Feb. 8 -- Buick announced today that it has signed
actress Cheryl Ladd to a new one-year agreement to serve as the company's golf
ambassador.
Ladd, who will represent Buick at its four title-sponsored PGA Tour
events, will wear a Buick hat while playing in pro-am events, conduct media
interviews on behalf of Buick and host dealers at tournament functions. Ladd
became Buick's golf representative in 1997.
"We are very pleased that Cheryl will continue to be part of the Buick
family," said Tony Derhake, Buick's brand manager of golf. "She has done a
great job over the past two years of increasing the level of exposure for
Buick and our golf program. We look forward to another outstanding year with
Cheryl as our golf ambassador."
"I am thrilled to be able to continue my relationship with Buick," said
Ladd, who learned to drive in a 1960 Buick LeSabre and currently drives a
Buick Park Avenue. "The people at Buick are like an extended family to me and
I look forward to continuing to spread the word about Buick golf and all the
great work they do for charity."
An avid golfer with a 18 handicap, Ladd is an actress, singer, dancer and
author who has appeared in more than 35 television movies and feature films.
She is best known for her work on the "Charlie's Angels" television program in
the late 1970's and early 1980's. Ladd has been extremely busy lately,
appearing in several successful films and television movies, including
"Permanent Midnight," "Dog of Flanders," and "Every Mother's Worst Fear,"
which she starred in with her daughter, Jordan. She had a major role in the
CBS movie-of-the-week, "Michael Landon: The Father I knew," appeared on the
NBC hit sitcom, "Jesse", and on the ABC hit "Two Guys and a Girl."
Since 1979, Ladd has served as a goodwill ambassador for CHILDHELP USA,
the largest national, non-profit organization dedicated to research,
prevention and treatment of child abuse.
Now in its fifth decade as the PGA Tour's original corporate sponsor,
Buick Motor Division is title-sponsor of four PGA Tour events: The Buick
Invitational (LaJolla, Calif.); the Buick Classic (Harrison, N.Y.); the Buick
Open (Flint, Mich.); and the Buick Challenge (Pine Mountain, Ga.).
The official car of the PGA Tour since 1984, Buick sponsors ESPN's "PGA
Tour shot of the week" series and "Inside the PGA Tour" program and is a major
sponsor of USA Network's coverage of the PGA Tour. Through its four
tournaments, which are all televised nationally, Buick has donated $17 million
to local charities since 1982.
