Honda Enhances Award Winning Pre-Owned Certification Program

    TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 7 -- The award-winning Honda Certified
Used Car Program (HCUC) just got a little better with a new extended
powertrain warranty on a wider range of vehicles, American Honda Motor Co.,
Inc. announced today.
    Under the new guidelines, Honda vehicles from the past six model years and
with less than 80,000 miles can qualify for certified used car coverage, up
from four years and 60,000 miles.
    Additionally, Honda is complementing its 12-month/12,000 mile
comprehensive coverage by extending the powertrain warranty to seven
years/100,000 miles.
    The Honda program was recently recognized by IntelliChoice, a research
firm specializing in consumer automotive information and the nation's
authority on vehicle ownership costs, as the "1999 Best-in-Class" used car
program among all non-luxury makes in its first national comparison study.
    "For consumers the Honda Certified Used Car Program provides added piece
of mind when buying a used car," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president
of American Honda Motor Co., Inc.  "We've worked hard to offer consumers an
unprecedented combination of quality vehicles, warranty and finance packages,
and the IntelliChoice award proves that the best place to buy or lease a
pre-owned vehicle is at a Honda dealership."
    As part of the Honda Certified Used Car Program, all vehicles must be
inspected by an authorized Honda dealer and pass a 150-point inspection of
major vehicle systems including engine, brakes, exhaust system, steering and
suspension, and tires and wheels.  The vehicles are also road tested and are
inspected for exterior and interior appearance to insure every vehicle is in
top condition.  Honda Certified Used Cars are available only at participating
Honda dealerships.
    The program enhancements also include improvements to the Honda Care
Certified Additional Coverage.  The coverage is customized to augment the HCUC
Limited Warranty and provide seven years or 100,000 miles of coverage from the
original date of the new-car sale.
    Customers may purchase the Honda Care Certified Additional Coverage at
their local Honda dealer.  Benefits include roadside assistance, towing,
rental car reimbursement and trip interruption reimbursements.
