Vinod K. Dasari has been elected an officer and named president - rail.
Rail is one of the six new global businesses constituting the company's
recently announced industry-focused organization. "As head of our Indian
operation, Vinnie has shown the leadership and vision we need to advance our
company's worldwide rail business," said James W. Griffith, president and
chief operating officer. "Under his leadership, we expect the rail business
to flourish, from technological advancements in the design of new products to
the services we provide customers in the aftermarket." Mr. Dasari's new
position is effective March 1.
Replacing Larry Brown, who will retire March 31, 2000, is William R.
Burkhart, who was elected an officer and named senior vice president and
general counsel. Mr. Burkhart's new position is effective April 1. "Bill's
knowledge and experience will serve the company well in today's corporate
environment where legal counsel has become increasingly complex," said W. R.
Timken, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer. "We are confident Bill
will continue Larry's wise legal counsel which, over the years, has protected
the company's rights and allowed the company to grow amidst a myriad of
government rules and regulations."
Mr. Dasari joined the company in 1992 as a senior bearing business analyst
in Canton. He also has held managerial positions in bearing operations and as
project manager of the company's global industrial segment strategy before
serving as managing director at Timken India in Jamshedpur, his most recent
position. Prior to joining Timken, he spent five years with General Electric
in various businesses focusing on manufacturing. Mr. Dasari and his family
will be relocating to Canton in the near future.
He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering at The University of
Louisville in Kentucky and a master's degree in management, specializing in
manufacturing, from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at
Northwestern University.
Mr. Burkhart joined the company as an attorney in 1994. He has served as
corporate attorney, as legal counsel for Europe, Africa and West Asia in
Colmar, France, and as director - affiliations and acquisitions, his most
recent position. Prior to joining Timken, Mr. Burkhart served as an attorney
for more than four years with the Pittsburgh law firm of Reed Smith Shaw &
McClay LLP.
He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of
Florida and a juris doctorate degree in law from Harvard University.
