The Timken Company Elects OfficersLarry R. Brown to Retire CANTON, Ohio, Feb. 4 -- As part of the company's continuing move to reorganize along global business lines and to prepare for the pending retirement of Larry R. Brown, senior vice president and general counsel, The Timken Company's board of directors today elected two new officers. Dasari has been elected an officer and named president - rail. Rail is one of the six new global businesses constituting the company's recently announced industry-focused organization. "As head of our Indian operation, Vinnie has shown the leadership and vision we need to advance our company's worldwide rail business," said James W. Griffith, president and chief operating officer. "Under his leadership, we expect the rail business to flourish, from technological advancements in the design of new products to the services we provide customers in the aftermarket." Mr. Dasari's new position is effective March 1. Replacing Larry Brown, who will retire March 31, 2000, is William R. Burkhart, who was elected an officer and named senior vice president and general counsel. Mr. Burkhart's new position is effective April 1. "Bill's knowledge and experience will serve the company well in today's corporate environment where legal counsel has become increasingly complex," said W. R. Timken, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer. "We are confident Bill will continue Larry's wise legal counsel which, over the years, has protected the company's rights and allowed the company to grow amidst a myriad of government rules and regulations." Mr. Dasari joined the company in 1992 as a senior bearing business analyst in Canton. He also has held managerial positions in bearing operations and as project manager of the company's global industrial segment strategy before serving as managing director at Timken India in Jamshedpur, his most recent position. Prior to joining Timken, he spent five years with General Electric in various businesses focusing on manufacturing. Mr. Dasari and his family will be relocating to Canton in the near future. He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering at The University of Louisville in Kentucky and a master's degree in management, specializing in manufacturing, from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. Mr. Burkhart joined the company as an attorney in 1994. He has served as corporate attorney, as legal counsel for Europe, Africa and West Asia in Colmar, France, and as director - affiliations and acquisitions, his most recent position. Prior to joining Timken, Mr. Burkhart served as an attorney for more than four years with the Pittsburgh law firm of Reed Smith Shaw & McClay LLP. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Florida and a juris doctorate degree in law from Harvard University.
