The Timken Company Makes Board ChangesOne Nomination, Two Retirements CANTON, Ohio, Feb. 4 -- At a regular meeting of The Timken Company's board of directors, a new member was nominated and two members announced their retirements. Woods, president of Ameritech Ohio in Cleveland, was nominated for membership on the board and will stand for election at the annual shareholders' meeting on April 18. "Jackie has a tremendous record of achievement as Ameritech's president," said W. R. Timken, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer. "I'm quite familiar with her work and know that she can bring much to the table, particularly in the fast-developing world of electronic communications and business." Charles H. West, 64, retires from the board effective Feb. 4, and Alton W. Whitehouse, 71, retires effective April 18. Mr. West is retired executive vice president and president - steel for Timken and has served as a director since 1984. Mr. Whitehouse is retired chairman and CEO of The Standard Oil Company in Cleveland and has been a director since 1986. "Chuck and Al have given invaluable insight to the strategic direction of our company for so many years," said Mr. Timken. "We will miss greatly their wisdom and experience." Ms. Woods, 52, graduated from Ohio's Muskingum College, joined Ohio Bell (now Ameritech) in 1970 and served in various leadership positions in customer service, public relations, public affairs and marketing. After working in Chicago as vice president of finance and administration and later as business marketing vice president at the Ameritech Services unit, she returned to Ohio in 1993 to assume her current position. Active in corporate, cultural and civic affairs, Ms. Woods chairs the board of Cleveland's Great Lakes Science Center. She is a member of the Board of several organizations, including the Cleveland Foundation, Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, the Ohio Business Roundtable and the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American Red Cross. Recently appointed as a member of Governor Taft's Workforce Policy Board, Ms. Woods was inducted into the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame in 1998.
