New Ride & Drive Experience Slated for First Time at SAE 2000 World Congress
6 February 2000
WARRENDALE, Pa./ -- Most attendees at SAE 2000 World Congress learn about new technology in the extensive technical program or see new technology on display -- this year they'll be able to actually experience it on professionally prepared driving courses. For the first time, the Society of Automotive Engineers will be holding "The SAE Driving Experience" at the Pontiac Silverdome for the first three days of SAE 2000 World Congress, March 6-8. The event will give registered attendees the opportunity to drive a variety of vehicles on one of four specialty tracks. Participating drivers will experience driving technologies such as on- track traction control, stability control, braking and tire technologies. The sessions will be conducted by professional driving instructors and will feature special vehicles from a number of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Typically, this type of behind-the-wheel experience is only found at exclusive and expensive driving schools. The participants will enhance and refine their driving skills, building on the foundation that maximum driver safety is achieved through skills supported with an understanding of vehicle dynamics. Major sponsors of the event include Visteon, Robert Bosch Corporation, Michelin, Continental Teves, and Kinetic Systems. Registration for the half-day session is $95, which includes a minimum of two track experiences and transportation by shuttle bus from Cobo Center in downtown Detroit to the Pontiac Silverdome and return. The four tracks available include a Traction Control Skid Pad, a DSC Slalom, Accident Avoidance and ABS (antilock brake).
