OSI Systems Announces $2.2 Million Order for Cutting-Edge and Patented Security and Detection Solution, the Secure 1000 Body-Scanner
HAWTHORNE, Calif.--Feb. 4, 2000--Currency, Plastic and Wood Rapidly and Accurately Without the
Need For Intrusive Hands-On Body Searches
OSI Systems Inc. , a worldwide provider of comprehensive security solutions and optical and pressure-sensitive electronics systems and subsystems, today announced that a branch of the Mexican government has placed an order for multiple Secure 1000 Body-Scanners, representing approximately $2.2 million in sales.
Product shipments have already commenced and are expected to be completed shortly. The Secure 1000 Body-Scanners will be used in airports, border checkpoints and customs facilities across Mexico. OSI Systems has the largest installed-base of this class of security and detection products worldwide.
The Secure 1000 is a cutting-edge security and detection product, providing comprehensive and highly detailed body searches in seconds, without the need for time-consuming, inefficient and potentially demeaning and dangerous hands-on body searches by security personnel.
The individual being searched steps in front of the Secure 1000 for a rapid "hands-off" body scan, and the results are displayed on the Secure 1000's high-resolution color monitor, to be viewed by the Secure 1000's operator from a secure remote location.
The Secure 1000's proprietary computer processing creates a computer image of the scanned individual to show the shape, size and location of objects concealed under the person's clothing. In addition to metallic items, the Secure 1000 is able to detect such items as dynamite, C-4, ceramics, graphite fibers, plastic, packaged narcotics, bundled currency and even wooden objects.
The Secure 1000 achieves its advanced detection capabilities through the use of extremely low-level and safe X-ray technology. One body scan by the Secure 1000 is equal to approximately 5 microREMs of radiation, which is less than 1 percent as much as a person receives from spending one day in Denver.
Commenting on the order, Deepak Chopra, OSI Systems' CEO, stated: "We are extremely pleased to have received our first major contract for the Secure 1000 product. The reception to the Secure 1000 among airports, detention facilities and customs personnel has been extremely positive, and we continue to demonstrate this product in the U.S. and overseas.
"We have always felt that the Secure 1000's versatility and ability to detect a wide range of materials quickly and easily would make the product an essential component in improving overall security."
Chopra continued: "This order validates our confidence in the Secure 1000's utility and high sales growth potential. We look forward to further sales of this advanced security solution.
"Also, the Secure 1000 relies extensively on the optical technologies produced in-house by OSI Systems, which evidences OSI Systems overall vertical integration strategy of leveraging its core technology platform to develop branded end-products, and then using its global manufacturing and sales presence to produce and distribute these products around the world."
