LDM Technologies Announces First Quarter EarningsAUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 2 -- LDM Technologies, Inc. reports net sales for its first quarter ended December 19, 1999 (first quarter 2000) were $125.4 million, a decrease of $12.7 million, or 9.2%, from the first quarter of FY 1999. First quarter 2000 net sales were comprised of $118.9 million of automotive product sales and $6.5 million of mold sales. The decline in net sales was partially due to the sale of the Company's blowmolding business. The Company also closed first quarter 2000 one week early to prepare for Y2K issues. If the early closing had not occurred, net sales would have been approximately $7 million higher in first quarter 2000. Operating profit was $7.6 million, or 6.1% of net sales, for the first quarter 2000 compared to $9.4 million, or 6.8% of net sales, for the same period in 1999. The decrease was due to excluding a week of sales to prepare for Y2K issues as discussed above. Interest expense was $4.7 million for the first quarter 2000 compared to $5.4 million for the first quarter 1999. The decrease is due to debt repayments made over the last twelve months. Net income for the first quarter 2000 was $1.3 million, or 1.0% of net sales compared to $1.7 million, or 1.2% of net sales, in the first quarter 1999. EBITDA for the first quarter 2000 was $13.4 million compared to $14.5 million for the first quarter 1999. The decrease in net income and EBITDA was due to excluding one week of sales in first quarter 2000 to prepare for Y2K issues as previously mentioned.
