Thor Announces Record Sales in Quarter, 6 Months; Retail RV Sales up 38% in JanuaryJACKSON CENTER, Ohio, Feb. 2 -- Thor Industries announced today record preliminary sales for the 3 and 6 months ended January 31, 2000. Sales were $414.6 million for the 6 months, up 17% from $354.7 million last year. Sales for the quarter were $193.6 million, up 17% from $165.5 million last year. RV sales in the 6 months were $296.6 million, up 18% from $250.7 million last year and $133.8 million in the quarter, up 19% from $112.4 million last year. Bus sales in the 6 months were $118.0 million, up 13% from $104.0 million last year and $59.7 million in the quarter, up 12% from $53.2 million last year. Thor's RV retail unit registrations in January were also a record, up 38% from last year with strength in both motorized and towables. "This is a great start to the new century as it indicates that our products are selling strongly at retail," said Wade F.B. Thompson, Thor chairman. RV industry shipments for calendar 1999 were up nearly 10%, to 321,000 units versus 293,000 in 1998, according to Recreation Vehicle Industry Association statistics just released.
