New Penn Delivered 99.82% of Shipments Claim-Free in 1999

LEBANON, Pa.--Feb. 2, 2000--New Penn Motor Express, Inc., a subsidiary of Arnold Industries, Inc. announced a new company record for freight handling quality as 99.82% of shipments were delivered claim-free in 1999. The company also set a record low cargo claims ratio of .30% in 1999.
The claims ratio indicates that only three tenths of one percent of revenues are paid back to customers to settle cargo loss and damage claims. New Penn's performance is more than four times better than the industry average of approximately 1.30%.
New Penn has established specific procedures for handling freight, and the associated paperwork, that minimize cargo loss and damage. The company has established its Quality Freight Handling System which is a prevention-based approach to cargo loss and damage reduction. New Penn has been able to reduce cargo loss and damage by focusing on the elimination of freight handling errors and measuring nonconformance.
Dynamic load planning and direct loading techniques minimize the number of times a shipment must be transferred from one truck to another. New Penn has invested heavily in specialized freight handling equipment to safely move shipments on the loading dock and to secure freight in the truck between pickup and delivery stops.
"New Penn's employees do a great job using the tools provided by the company to ensure our customers' freight arrives in excellent condition," said New Penn's Vice President of Loss Prevention, Moe Galante. "In this age of Just-in-Time, our goal is to provide error-free transportation to our customers," Galante added.
New Penn Motor Express, Inc., (www.newpenn.com) headquartered in Lebanon, PA, is a regional less-than-truckload motor carrier providing reliable next-day service through a network of 23 terminal facilities located in the Northeastern United States, Quebec, Canada and Puerto Rico. New Penn employs over 1,400 people and operates a fleet of over 800 trucks and tractors, and 1,500 trailers.
