Cummins Announces Management Change in Filtration Business; Dave Jones to Retire; Rick Mills named Successor

COLUMBUS, Ind.--Jan. 31, 2000--Cummins Engine Co. Inc. today announced that M. David Jones, Cummins' Vice President - Filtration and President of Cummins' filtration business unit, which includes Fleetguard, Inc., and Nelson Industries, Inc., will retire from the Company. Rick J. Mills, 52, currently Cummins' Vice President - Corporate Controller, will replace him.
"This year will mark my 30th anniversary at Cummins, and for some time now, I have been considering retiring to pursue other opportunities. My decision to leave Cummins has been a difficult one, but is the right one for me at this time," said Jones. "I have enjoyed working with the people of Cummins, Fleetguard and Nelson, with our distributor organization and, most importantly, with our customers around the world. I wish them all continued success."
"Dave has provided effective leadership to our filtration business unit," said Cummins Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tim Solso. "Most significantly, he led the acquisition of Nelson Industries by Cummins in 1998, and has been responsible for its integration into the filtration group. We wish him nothing but the best in his new endeavors."
Continued Solso, "I am very pleased that Rick Mills has agreed to head the filtration unit. Rick not only brings a strong financial background to the job, but he knows our filtration business, having served as Vice President of Fleetguard for the Pacific Rim and Latin America. His service to Cummins as Corporate Controller has been invaluable, and we look forward to his leadership in the filtration business."
Mills, 52, first joined Cummins in 1970 in the financial area, working as a corporate auditor, financial analyst, and accounting manager. In 1981, he was named controller of Atlas, Inc., a Cummins subsidiary, and from there, moved to director of finance at Cummins' Jamestown Engine Plant. He rejoined Atlas in 1988, as Vice President and General Manager, before becoming President of Atlas in 1990. From there, he moved to Fleetguard as Vice President - Pacific Rim and Latin America. In 1996, Mills was named Vice President - Corporate Controller for Cummins.
