Omron Announces New Power Window Switch/Control System

26 January 2000

Omron Automotive Electronics Announces New FMVSS 118-Compliant Anti-Pinch Power Window Switch/Control System
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Jan. 25 -- Omron Automotive
Electronics, a global supplier of advanced electronic components, announces
its new Anti-Pinch Power Window Switch/Control System to meet the Federal
Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 118. Omron will display the new FMVSS
118-compliant system at the SAE 2000 World Congress, March 6-9, in Detroit.
Omron's anti-pinch control system combines an electronic control unit and
sensing methods to automatically stop the upward movement of a power window
when it comes in contact with an obstruction such as a passenger's arm. The
new design ensures that "power operated window, partition, and roof panel
systems minimize the likelihood of death or injury from their accidental
operation." This system prevents mis-detection caused by vibrations from a
rough driving surface, environmental changes such as temperature, voltage,
rain, snow, ice and debris, and variations of vehicle door assemblies.
A unique feature of Omron's anti-pinch system is that the control unit is
often built into the power window switch housing, providing cost savings as
well as weight and space savings. The system can be tailored to particular
applications and customer requirements.
High performance and reliability of the system are assured by Omron's
state-of-the-art switch cell technology. Omron's switch cells are produced on
fully automated lines and pass several in-process tests before assembly into
the anti-pinch power window controls. Omron's anti-pinch control technology
is proven in more than five years of production.
Omron Automotive designs and manufactures a wide range of advanced
electronic and electromechanical components for manufacturers around the
world. As part of a $5.6 billion corporation with strengths in fuzzy logic,
optics, sensors and the 3C's ... controls, components and computers, Omron
Automotive integrates these technologies into its electronic control
components to help auto makers achieve greater safety, comfort and convenience
for today's drivers. For additional information about Omron's products, visit
