Servigistics Delivers First Web-based Service Planning and Forecasting Solution
DALLAS--Jan. 25, 2000--Leading Indicator Forecasting
Servigistics today announced the availability of the first web-based planning and forecasting software for service parts management. Leveraging the existing architecture of distributed java components, PartsPlan Release 3.0 offers robust capabilities for large and distributed service organizations, including a web-client, AutoPilot for automatic part processing, and Leading Indicator Forecasting. The enhanced solution further simplifies service parts logistics with increased flexibility and ease of use.
By offering access over the Internet, Servigistics enables customers to integrate their entire supply chain -- central logistics, field management, vendors, repair organizations, customers and carriers -- to optimize service parts inventory, and more importantly, field inventory where the majority of investment and service levels reside. A sophisticated security model maps processes and part/location groups to user permissions. The capability to access the software remotely generates tremendous cost savings as well as closer, more effective relationships with the total supply chain.
To increase planning productivity and bandwidth, PartsPlan 3.0 incorporates management by exception to process low-priority parts automatically with AutoPilot. AutoPilot uses part/location groups to manage parts by exception with predetermined rounding rules, forecasting methods, and critical shortage and excess thresholds. A complete web dashboard monitors the system and alerts users to unexpected demand trends or spikes for necessary adjustments.
Another key enhancement, Leading Indicator Forecasting, supplements the forecasting process by using indexes, such as installed-base or machine/flight hours, and provides an alternative to trending historical demand. This process can factor usage rates, such as Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), up or down, while a coverage model maps demand to each stocking location.
"Delivering the latest functionality and web technology, PartsPlan can easily scale from modest-sized companies with limited requirements to very large companies processing tens of thousands of part numbers for thousands of stocking locations," said Mike Landry, president and CEO of Servigistics. "Release 3.0 supports Servigistics' commitment to providing solutions that drive maximum customer service at reduced inventory investment for all customers."
