Dana's Epic Technical Group Develops New Electronic Engine Management System for Industrial EnginesWASHINGTON, Mo., Jan. 13 -- Dana Corporation's EPIC Technical Group has developed a new electronic engine control system for engines running on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This new system, called the Carburetted Engine Management System (CEMS), will be supplied to NACCO Materials Handling Group, Inc., for use on the two new lift trucks, the Hyster H70-120XM and the Yale GP070-120LJ/MJ. The system also provides the option of including a closed-loop LP fuel control mechanism, which NACCO will use on some of the new models. When used with the optional OE-Tune valve, the CEMS can lower exhaust emissions while maintaining excellent performance and drivability. The CEMS/OE-Tune valve combination is capable of meeting the California Air Resources Board proposed 2001-2003 emissions standards for off-road large spark-ignition engines. "We are committed to helping our customers reach their emission reduction goals," said Allan Cameron, president of Dana Fluid System Products. "Dana's Fluid System Products Group has a long history of introducing new technologies, innovative materials, and flexible manufacturing processes to meet the ever higher performance standards of OE manufacturers worldwide." EPIC's CEMS features highly accurate and responsive electronic engine speed governing, as well as digital ignition control. The new system also utilizes electronic idle load-speed control, which helps prevent the engine from stalling under heavy loads. Designed for the industrial forklift market, the CEMS can be applied to a wide variety of industrial LPG powered engines. For Hyster and Yale gasoline powered electronic fuel injected lift trucks, EPIC will supply other components including the throttle body assembly, throttle body injection module, and airhorn/adapter assembly. EPIC Technical Group, a manufacturer of tubular and hose assemblies, is a division of Dana Fluid System Products, one of the core businesses of Dana's Fluid Systems strategic business unit. Dana's Fluid Systems Group provides components, modules, and systems to engine and vehicle manufacturers worldwide.
