Simpson Industries Awarded Engine Module Contract
    PLYMOUTH, Mich., Jan. 13 -- Simpson Industries, Inc.
today announced that it has been selected to supply a major
engine module for a Model Year 2002 light-duty truck vehicle program.  The
mature sales are expected to exceed $30 million per year or approximately $250
million over the life of the program, which is estimated to be seven to ten
years.  The company is expected to finish 1999 with sales of approximately
$530 million.
    "This is a major early breakthrough for Simpson in its efforts to
establish modular engine business as a new growth initiative," said Roy E.
Parrott, Chairman and CEO of Simpson Industries.  "In addition, this award is
the largest dollar volume order received in the company's history and
demonstrates the global technical and manufacturing capability of Simpson in
modular products," added Mr. Parrott.  "Receiving this order tops off a record
year in which Simpson was awarded $106 million of new annualized business
awards that will be launched over the next three years in North America and
Europe."
